The Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department (BCPOS) is soliciting proposals from qualified and experienced construction contractors for the repair and reconstruction of a damaged segment of the Boulder Canyon Trail and its associated creekside slope protection wall. The project site is located downstream of the intersection of HW 119 and Fourmile Canyon Drive, immediately east of the HW 119 trail underpass. The affected trail section sustained significant scour, creating a substantial void beneath the finished trail surface as it approaches an existing bridge abutment. In addition, the creekside slope containment structure at this location has been compromised and requires full, permanent reconstruction. Contractors must incorporate protective measures for two existing City of Boulder waterlines that run beneath and through the project area.
The proposed scope of work includes construction of a properly engineered and grouted boulder slope protection wall adjacent to the existing bridge abutment, as well as restoration of the approach trail to its pre scour condition.
The Project Consists of:
1. Construction of grouted boulder slope containment wall.
2. Construction of trail approach impacted by scour and any associate site activities.
3. Reclamation of all disturbed areas with different identified native seed mixes.
Major items of work include, but are not limited to:
1. Secure applicable permits prior to construction startup.
2. Mobilization and project controls.
3. Operation of a curtesy shuttle for duration of project to ensure the public who use the trail to commute have a safe route around the closure.
4. Site preparation includes a pre-construction survey, necessary Best Management Practices (BMPs)/Stormwater Control Measures (CMs).
5. Access for heavy machinery and materials by way of existing low water crossing East and downstream of concentrated project work site. Return Low Water Crossing to pre-project condition or better.
6. PROTECTION OF EXISTING 16" CITY OF BOULDER HIGH PRESSURE WATER LINES (2EA.)
7. Clearing and grubbing within limits of disturbance.
8. Demolition and removal of existing temporary repair structures.
9. Unclassified excavation in conformity with the lines and grades shown in the construction drawings.
10. Dewatering temporary excavations.
11. Placement of structural materials as specified for linear/vertical construction.
12. Hauling excess material to predetermined disposal site.
13. Installation of perimeter control for resource preservation.
14. A minimum of one (1) year guarantee and warranty will be required for any re-vegetation efforts for survival rates.
15. Restoration of internal access/haul routes, staging areas and demobilization.
Deliverables:
1. Critical path construction schedule – Prior to mobilization
2. Copy of all applicable permits/Traffic Control Plans's – Prior to mobilization
3. Complete submittal log – Prior to mobilization
4. Confirmation of operational shuttle service for trail users impacted by trail closure – Prior to mobilization.
