What the bid is for

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Canyon Country District is requesting completion of a Class III Inventory – intensive pedestrian survey (Class III survey) of approximately 1987 acres. Survey associated with this project will only be performed on BLM-administered lands.

The BLM Canyon Country District is planning a vegetation management project in San Juan County. The project would utilize mastication to reduce ladder fuels, reintroduce native vegetation, and improve habitat.

Scope

The Class III archaeological survey project area consists of 2 polygons of various sizes. The Class III survey is being completed in compliance with federal cultural resource laws in support of planned BLM undertakings.

The Class III survey will occur near Monticello, Utah in San Juan County, west of Highway 191 and east of the Manti-La Sal Forest. Specifically, the project area spans 2 polygons dispersed across unnamed ridge tops north and south of Spring Creek.

The identification, documentation, and NRHP evaluation of archaeological resources will be completed in accordance with the current BLM Utah Fieldwork Guidelines and UtSHPO Cultural Resource Compliance Guidance.

Utah Archaeological Site Forms will be completed for each newly recorded cultural resource site and each revisited previously documented site. Previously documented sites that are unable to be relocated will be documented using a Utah Archaeological Site Form Part A.

Each cultural resource site within the project area shall be evaluated for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), as set forth in 36 CFR 60. The Contractor shall make recommendations concerning site eligibility and include a written justification, both on the Utah Archaeological Site Form and in the project report.

No paper reporting is required for this project. Standard BLM and UtSHPO digital deliverables are required for the Agency Archaeologists.

The final report will include the UtSHPO Cover Sheet (PDF page 1) and the BLM Summary Report of Cultural Resource Inspection, Form UT-8100-3 (PDF page 2+).
